Mind Over Mocha Socials
These are free of charge, small social gathering events to casually discuss a philosophical topic over a nice drink. No need to book, just turn up and join in!
Next Event:
Saturday 8th January at 1:00 in Chapters Café in Keele University!
Topic: What Is Philosophy?
What do we mean when we talk about philosophy? Is philosophy important? Why bother doing philosophy when we have science now? Is philosophy only for rich people in tweed suits? Or is it something for everyone? And what benefit, if any, can philosophy have on our personal lives? And what does all this have to do with counselling?!
Come along and find out!
What Mind Over Mocha is:
Mind Over Mocha socials are casual weekly social events hosted by Get Philosophical for people of all walks of life to come and discuss a new philosophical topic over a nice drink with the aim of exchanging perspectives, learning and making new friends. The sessions are facilitated by Chris, but everyone’s voice has the same power. These events are hosted in good faith and are not debate platforms. No one is expected to know anything about the topic in the sessions, and everyone is there to help each other grow as individuals and as philosophers!
Benefits:
- Learn philosophy in an informal social setting
- The chance to speak your mind without judgment
- The opportunity to meet new people with like-minded interests
- Dialectic learning
Etiquette:
Please take some time to read the etiquette sheet below before attending. Below describes what to expect at a Mind Over Mocha social event, as well as some “dos and dont’s”. In summary, it simply says we want everyone to be polite, respectful and open-minded. And to remember that Mind Over Mocha is a safe space for discussion and not a place to try and debate. Our socials are held in “good-faith”, meaning no one is expected to be an expert, have citations at hand or otherwise expected to defend or attack other’s views. It’s a place to learn and have a good time.
Who it’s for:
These events are for everyone! All are welcome. Professional philosophers, people that don’t know what philosophy is. Religious people, non-religious people. Gay, straight, left wing, right wing, centrists. All are welcome to throw their hat in the ring at our Mind Over Mocha socials!
Prices:
Free! There is no price of admission (but you will have to pay for your own drinks, sadly!)
