1:1 Philosophical Counselling
These are 50 minute 1 on 1 philosophical counselling sessions to be booked as and when you want them. However, if you have never had a session before, please book a free 30-minute consultation to see if philosophical counselling is right for you.
What is Philosophical Counselling?
Philosophical counselling is our primary service. In principle, it is the same as ordinary psychotherapy counselling, but it is done through a philosophical lens. You will have a 1 on 1 session with a trained philosopher as opposed to a mental health counsellor who will discuss with you your problems or concerns and together you and the philosophical counsellor will explore your thoughts and feelings and develop a strategy for improving your thinking and expanding your perspective through therapeutic and educational techniques. For extensive detail about philosophical counselling, read our “what is philosophical counselling page” and our “grounds for referral document“.
Benefits of Philosophical Counselling:
- The chance to vent your thoughts and feelings in a safe space
- The chance to discuss complex ideas with a train philosopher
- Exploring your thoughts and learning how to critically analyse them in order to improve your thinking habits
- A safe space where you can explore your problems, who you are and think aloud without fear of judgment
- Getting to explore new perspectives and expanding your own
- Learn new communication skills that can be used in personal or professional life
- The opportunity to learn about practical philosophy and discuss ways of implementing it into your daily life
- Bibliotherapy: Get tailored reading recommendations and the opportunity to discuss them and how they relate to you
Who is Philosophical Counselling for?
Philosophical counselling is for everyone! But more specifically, it is for people with non-clinical problems. In other words, it is for those ordinary, human problems that we all face from time to time. Break-ups, bereavements, career changes, moral concerns, questioning person identity, wondering about our place in the universe, wanting to explore life’s big questions like the meaning of life or how to deal with existential dread etc.
Though philosophical counselling is not a form of treatment for mental illness, people with diagnosed mental illness are still more than welcome to have philosophical counselling so long as the topic they wish to discuss is philosophical in nature, in other words it’s not a topic that requires mental health treatment such as “how to manage bipolar disorder” or “how to deal with hallucinations” because these kinds of explicitly mental health related problems are best suited for a clinical psychotherapist or otherwise trained mental health professional. For more information about the kinds of things philosophical counselling can help with and the kinds of things it is not suitable for, see our “grounds for referral document“. If you are still unsure if what you wish to discuss is suitable for philosophical counselling, by all means get in touch! You are welcome to reach out to us via email at: chris@getphilosophical.com or give us a call on: 07386609173, we will be more than happy to discuss it with you!
Prices:
£40 for a 50-minute session. These sessions are on a “pay as you go” basis, meaning you are not obligated to have more sessions at any given time. Book the sessions as and when you feel you need them. For some that’s weekly for a set amount of weeks like in traditional psychotherapy. For others, it’s ad hoc (meaning as and when they want them). You can have sessions, weekly, monthly, yearly or sporadically. It’s about your schedule and your need.
